CHAPTER SEVEN

August 13th

8:58 A.M.

Uh, sure, maybe sometime soon.

That was the stupid response Isaac had given her when she’d said she’d like to come and see him.

He was giving in to his fears, Dove could feel it, and she wasn’t going to let it happen.

Fear stole your life without you even realizing, she knew that because she’d lived it. It was fear that had kept her in London and in staying away she’d missed out on spending time with her baby niece and nephews, they barely knew who she was. Even though she’d been there for Cleo right after she came home, her assault was less than a month later, and while they video chatted all the time, she hadn't been there to support her niece. And although she was close with her sister-in-law Olivia because she’d met her before her assault, she wasn’t as close with Hope and Maddy as she’d like. It had left her trying to navigate to a new normal all on her own, away from the people who would have been there for her.

She wasn’t going to let that happen to Isaac.

Which was why she was in her car at nine in the morning, having left before six to track him down at his place. Dove had known when they'd hung up last night that if she didn't do something, Isaac would talk himself out of dating her. He was going to let his fear of failure cut them off at the knees, ending their relationship before it even began. They’d only really gone on one date, sightseeing in London, but they got along so well, and there was a definite spark there, they both deserved a chance to see where things went.

No way was Isaac ending this before it started.

No way.

So, she was taking matters into her own hands. Tracking down sexy men was not in her job description so she’d gone to Eagle. Since Isaac had done a few consulting jobs for Prey, including playing bodyguard for her twice, he’d been paid, and if he’d been paid then Prey had his address on file. Her job was to run Prey’s finances—as well as her siblings’ personal portfolios—she didn't deal with employee files. As CEO, Eagle knew every single detail of everything that happened at Prey, no matter how small. He’d given her Isaac’s address and even offered to have someone drive her up here, but this was something she wanted to do on her own.

Since the threat to her family had been eliminated last October, there wasn’t a need to be as stringent about their personal safety anymore. While there was always a chance that someone might target her family because of their wealth or because of their work, she felt confident enough to head out to Isaac’s place without Rick.

Because she’d left so early there hadn't been too much traffic, and she’d made great time, she was close to Isaac’s property, but all of these small, quiet country roads were getting her all twisted up.
